Prof. Barsa Priyadarsinee Sahoo is working as an Assistant Professor in the Alliance School of Law. She graduated in Sociology from Ravenshaw University, Odisha. Thereafter, she obtained her Post Graduation and M.Phil. Degrees in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The topic of her dissertation for the Masters of Philosophy degree was titled “Child Labor in India: A Study of Patterns and Determinants in Odisha”. Presently she is pursuing her doctoral degree from the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University.
 

After completing her M.Phil., she worked as a guest lecturer in the Department of Sociology in Ravenshaw University, Odisha. Later she joined as an Assistant Professor in Sociology in the School of Law, Raffles University, Neemrana.
 

Her area of research interest includes Studies in Inequality, Social Exclusion, Social Stratification, Social Mobility, and Research Methodology.
 

She has also presented papers in various seminars and conferences.

 

Research Papers Authored and Presented:

  • XL All India Sociological Conference on Development, Diversity and Democracy organised by the Department of Sociology, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. (29th November to 1st December, 2014). Paper titled: “Childhood at Risk: An Analysis of the Determinants of Child Labor”.
     
  • ICSSR sponsored Two-Day National Seminar on “Reconstructing Development and its Discontents in India: Problems, Paradoxes and Possibilities organized by the Department of Sociology, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack. (14th-15th November, 2015). Paper titled: “Development and the Concerns of the Working Children: Challenges and Opportunities”.
     

Workshops Participated:

  • Participated in the Workshop on “Qualitative Research in Education and the Social Sciences: Going Beyond Ethnography” organized at Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi on 28th October 2013.
     
  • Organized a Seminar on “A Tale of Two Paradises: A Comparative Reflection on Kashmir and Manipur’ in November 2012
