On the 22nd of September 2023, Alliance School of Law hosted a distinguished Guest Lecture that delved into the niche and burgeoning topic of "Environmental Law Practices in 2023." The event featured Mr. Sudhir Mishra, an accomplished Advocate of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, based in Delhi, as the esteemed resource person. The session commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Gyanashree Dutta, Assistant Professor at Alliance School of Law, followed by a warm welcome note from Professor Dr. V. Shyam Kishore, Interim Dean of Alliance School of Law.
Nurturing Minds through Environmental Law: Advocate Sudhir Mishra's Canvas of Legal Expertise
Given that Environmental Law is a core subject in the curriculum for both BA.LLB. and BBA.LLB. students during their VII Semester, this session aimed to shed light on the practical facets of environmental governance and its diverse legal dimensions. The lecture evolved into an engaging brainstorming session, with Mr. Sudhir Mishra sharing insights from his journey, starting as a legal practitioner and eventually establishing his own law firm, "Trust Legal," located in Delhi. He touched upon various practical areas, including the contemporary relevance of biodiversity, the significance of visiting national parks and sanctuaries, and his experiences in handling numerous air pollution cases in Delhi. His talk highlighted his involvement in over 120 litigations addressing environmental issues before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
Advocate Mishra's Pioneering Efforts: Battling Air Pollution in Delhi
The students were particularly enthralled when Adv. Mishra recounted how he voluntarily filed a Writ Petition in 2015 before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi, titled "Sudhir Mishra versus Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ors. In W.P. (C) 2115 of 2015," with the aim of curbing the rise of air pollution in the Delhi/NCR region, stemming from multiple inter-state and intra-state environmental factors.
