Lamp-Lighting Ceremony with Distinguished Guest
Alliance University warmly welcomed its latest cohort of students during the grand B.TECH. September Batch of 2023 Inaugural and Orientation Event. The event commenced with a delightful lamp-lighting ceremony, graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Shijo Fracis, Assistant Project Director at the National Aerospace Laboratory, CSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. His presence marked the beginning of an inspiring journey for our aspiring business leaders.
Inspiring Words from Dr. Reeba Korah, Professor and Interim Dean
Dr. Reeba Korah, Professor and Interim Dean of Alliance College of Engineering and Design, delivered a warm welcome address. She discussed campus life at Alliance University and the transformative journey that awaited the new cohort. Dr. Korah drew inspiration from the life story of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, highlighted the challenges he faced and overcame. She emphasised how Alliance University would provide opportunities to develop skill sets and knowledge and shape students' professional journeys.
Inaugural Address by Mr. Abhay G. Chebbi, Pro-Chancellor
Mr. Abhay G. Chebbi, Pro-Chancellor of Alliance University, shared his own journey through engineering to make students feel at home. He discussed the role of technology and emphasised the pivotal role engineers play. Mr. Chebbi delved into the concept of cross-disciplinary learning and how it enhances learning abilities. He provided key advice for students, encouraging them to chart unknown territories, tap into creativity, be aware of their surroundings, and banish self-doubt. Mr. Chebbi concluded with the quote by Benjamin Brewster: "In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, while in practice, there is."
Keynote Address by Mr. Shijo Francis, Assistant Project Director
Mr. Shijo Francis, Assistant Project Director at the National Aerospace Laboratory, CSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, began by urging students to take responsibility and address the issue of anti-ragging. He highlighted the differences between this transformative journey and school life and emphasized the vital role played by faculty in nurturing students. Mr. Francis discussed the competitive landscape outside and the importance of standing out from the crowd. He also touched on the advancements in the aerospace industry and emerging technologies developed in India, offering insights into leadership and social responsibilities.
Address by Dr. B. Priestly Shan, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs)
Dr. B. Priestly Shan, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), acknowledged Mr. Shijo Francis's contributions to the aerospace industry, particularly his role in the Chandrayaan-3 Space mission. He discussed how to face challenges in life that lead to success, using Chandrayaan-1 and 2 missions as examples. Dr. Shan highlighted the world of opportunities available at Alliance University, including webinars, workshops, international programmes, conferences, etc. He also noted the university's affiliations with Fortune 500 companies for campus placements.
