Alliance University hosts the much-anticipated Proglint’s Computer Vision 2k23 National Hackathon

Introduction:

The Proglint’s Computer Vision 2k23 National Hackathon event was hosted by the Alliance University. The competition was primarily centered around addressing computer vision challenges, with a strong emphasis on developing optimized solutions addressing real-world issues. A total of 305 teams from across India registered for the hackathon, showcasing a high level of interest and engagement in computer vision technology, reflecting a diverse and widespread interest in the field.

Standout Objectives of the Event:

The objective of Proglint's Computer Vision 2K23 National Hackathon was to cultivate and foster enthusiasm among emerging young talents in the field of computer vision. A three-round elimination and selection procedure was implemented, and the judging criteria consisted of a screening round, challenge round, or elimination round.

The hackathon starts off with two screening rounds:

On September 19, 2023, the online quiz round was conducted by Dr. Abraham George, Head of Department, Computer Science & Engineering, Alliance College of Engineering and Design, and his team. The online quiz round had been efficiently coordinated by Prof. Radha and her team, placing great emphasis on effective event organization and management.

The Enthralling Elimination round serves as the 2nd level of assessment:

Out of the 200 participating teams, the top-performing 45 teams advanced to the second round. The top 20 teams had emerged as finalists, set to compete in the concluding evaluation round, which was scheduled to be held in person at Alliance University Central Campus on October 3rd and 4th, 2023.

The final fight garners a lot of anticipation and eyes:

On October 3rd, the hackathon finals drew participants, professionals, and enthusiasts from all over the country. The inauguration ceremony, with its traditional lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana, set a spiritual and cultural tone, symbolizing the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. Dr. Reeba Korah, Interim Dean of Alliance College of Engineering and Design, delivered a warm welcome address, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation.

Valuable Insights from University Officers:

Mr. Abhay G. Chebbi, Pro-Chancellor of Alliance University, provided an inspiring inaugural address, encouraging participants to explore the limitless potential of computer vision. Dr. B. Priestly Shan, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, recognized the significance of the event in shaping the academic landscape.

Guest Speakers’ Enlightening Words:

Mr. Sriram Sudhakar, Founder and CEO of Proglint Software Solutions, introduced the essence and goals of the hackathon, while Dr. K. Ramalakshmi shared valuable insights into computer vision's transformative potential. Dr. Rydhm Beri expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks, fostering a sense of unity and purpose.

Declaration of Winners:

Proglint's team presented the finalist teams with three distinct problem statements. Following a thorough assessment, the distinguished panel of judges unveiled the results. ‘Invalid Datatypes’ from VIT-AP University, Andhra Pradesh, was declared the winners! ‘Tech Tates’ from Shiv Nadar University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, claimed the 2nd position. ‘Data Maverick’ from Alliance University, Bengaluru, Karnataka, clinched the 3rd position. The joint 4th position was occupied by ‘Pixel Pioneers’ and ‘Visionaries’, respectively, from Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune, Maharashtra, and Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Vote of Thanks:

Dr. Ramalakshmi congratulated the winners and delivered the Vote of Thanks. The first-place team was awarded ₹75,000, while the second and third-place teams received ₹50,000 and ₹25,000, respectively, and 4th place received 12.5k each.
