The Department of Student Support Services (DoSSS) at Alliance University, in collaboration with the Bengaluru District Police, organized an awareness session on World Drug Day 2024. This event, held on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by the United Nations, focused on the theme “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention” and took place at Anekal, Bengaluru.
Addressing Drug Abuse
Police Inspector Sri Tippeswamy, Anekal Sub-Division, highlighted the rise of drug abuse, particularly among youth. He discussed its detrimental effects and the legal aspects surrounding it. His insights aimed to educate attendees on the severity and consequences of substance abuse.
Preventive Measures and University Commitment
Dr. Viswanathaiah Matam, Registrar at Alliance University, emphasized preventive measures against drug abuse. He reiterated the university's commitment to combating this issue for the welfare of society. Dr. Matam’s address underlined the importance of collective efforts in preventing drug abuse.

Observing the International Day Against Drug Abuse
The United Nations, by resolution 42/112 of December 7, 1987, decided to observe June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This day reflects the determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve an international society free of drug abuse. The awareness session by Alliance University and Bengaluru District Police aligns with this global initiative.
