Mission Admission 2023: Alliance University Engages In Inspiring Dialogue On The Future Of Engineering

Alliance College of Engineering and Design, Alliance University had the privilege of participating in the Times of India's Mission Admission 2023 initiative on 17th June, which kicked off with great enthusiasm as students and parents gathered at the prestigious JN Tata Auditorium in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus. The day-long event aimed to provide comprehensive guidance and insights into post-12th grade options, admission processes, career scopes, and more. One of the prominent sessions, titled "The future of engineering – Evolving engineering streams," brought together esteemed panelists to shed light on the latest trends in the field.
Moderated by Prof. S Sadagopan, Former Director of IIIT-Bangalore, the session delved into the evolving landscape of engineering streams, specifically focusing on computer science and electronics disciplines with specializations in AI, ML, Data Science, and other emerging areas. Another significant aspect explored was the integration of computer science elements into core engineering streams such as mechanical and chemical engineering. The discussion centered around whether these new streams are sustainable or merely capitalizing on current trends. Furthermore, considering the rapidly changing job market, the panelists contemplated the demand for these skills in the future when students completing these courses enter the workforce.

Seshachalam, Professor and Dean Academic at BMS College of Engineering, provided a unique perspective on the evolving engineering streams. With his profound knowledge and research background, Dr. Seshachalam brought valuable insights into the integration of computer science elements in traditional engineering disciplines. The engaging session captivated the audience as the panelists shared their views, experiences, and predictions regarding the future of engineering. The inaugural event commenced at 10:30 am with the esteemed presence of Sri. S.R. Umashankar, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, as the Guest of Honour. His presence added to the significance of the event and emphasized the importance of quality education and career guidance.
