The Alliance Centre for Corporate and Commercial Law (ACCL), Alliance School of Law, hosted a three-day workshop on Law and Economics. This event brought together students, researchers, and faculty to explore the dynamic relationship between legal frameworks and economic principles. The workshop aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how these two disciplines intersect, particularly in the context of insolvency and bankruptcy.
Focus Areas of the Workshop
Dr. Hiteshkumar Thakkar, Assistant Professor of Economics at Gujarat National Law University, led the workshop. Dr. Thakkar conducted detailed sessions on applying economic theories to legal systems, focusing on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). The discussions emphasised the importance of understanding the legal framework surrounding insolvency and bankruptcy, illustrating its practical relevance in addressing corporate and individual financial distress.
Key Learnings and Tools
Participants gained valuable insights into integrating economic theories with legal practices. A key highlight was the introduction of statistical analysis tools for legal research, which aimed to enhance the analytical skills of attendees. Practical training sessions were conducted on JASP software, enabling participants to learn and apply data analysis techniques to support their research. This hands-on approach ensured that participants developed practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge.
Topics Covered
The workshop also included discussions on significant topics such as the Coase Theorem, which examines the role of property rights and transaction costs in economic efficiency. In addition, sessions on the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) provided detailed insights into the mechanisms and procedures involved in addressing corporate insolvency. These topics were discussed in depth, offering participants a nuanced perspective on how economic principles can shape legal policies and decisions.
Concluding Session
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session to acknowledge Dr. Hiteshkumar Thakkar's contributions. Dr. Thakkar was felicitated for his efforts in leading the workshop and sharing his expertise with the participants. His sessions provided valuable guidance and helped attendees enhance their understanding of the intersection between law and economics.
The event reaffirmed the Alliance School of Law's commitment to fostering interdisciplinary learning and equipping participants with the skills to address complex legal and economic challenges.
