The Alliance Centre for Women Empowerment promotes cyber security awareness at the Government High School, Anekal, Bengaluru

The Alliance Centre for Women Empowerment visited the Government High School, Anekal, Bengaluru, on February 1st, 2024. The main objective of the visit was to brief the students on the importance of cybersecurity and how it can impact our lives. Led by Dr. Anupama Tiwari, the event turned out to be an informative success.
Advocating about cyber security
The event started with the chairperson, Dr. Nivedita Mishra, addressing the students by detailing the courses running at Alliance University. This was followed by a brief on the objectives of the Alliance Center for Women Empowerment and the importance of cyber security. As we live in the age of social media, we must keep a check on safely browsing the net for our own use. The main objective of this visit was to educate the students about cyber security while browsing the internet.
Later, the chairperson talked about how social media plays an important role in our lives, and hence, we must use it responsibly. Dr. Mishra gave a brief introduction about both the resource persons and how the students will benefit from this awareness session on cyber security.
Objectives Covered
Dr. Lenin and Dr. R.C. Karpagalakshmi facilitated a cyber awareness session for young schoolgirls. They covered topics on how to make sure that a safe and combat environment is created for young girls. As a major focus on the issue of cyber safety and awareness, the facilitators also covered topics like:
- How to protect your personal information and stay safe online.
- How to maintain positive and respectful interactions in the online environment.
- Equip yourself with the knowledge and skills to identify and combat cyberbullying.
- Pursue interests and careers in technology.
The session encouraged the students to think about the right social media usage and how to keep online interactions positive and respectful. The young schoolgirls did not just learn about cyber security but also ways to identify potential cyberbullying and steps to combat it. The young girls were also taught about various career options in technology.
The Secretary of the Alliance Centre for Women Empowerment, Dr. Mamatha Ravi, explained to the young schoolgirls how to instill good online etiquette and responsible content-sharing habits in Kannada. The session ended with a vote of thanks by the principal of Government High School, Mrs. Kavitha.
Outcome and Conclusion
In the era of social media, where one wrong click can risk your life, it was empowering to tell the students about the responsible use of social media. From the internet to cyberbullying, our facilitators explained to the young girls how to identify and combat any bullying they face on social media. The session ended with spreading awareness about pursuing interests in and careers in technology. Alliance University stands for empowering women with cyber awareness.
