Tangible and Intangible Heritage: Italian Law Enforcement and Protection of National Heritage

As part of the Workshop series on Tangible and Intangible Heritage, Alliance School of Liberal Arts hosted an event on “Italian Law Enforcement and Protection of National Heritage” on March 30, 2023 at Alliance University campus, Bengaluru.
The event was inaugurated by H.E. Alfonso Tagliaferri, Consul General of Italy in Bengaluru. The workshop featured informative talks on topics concerning the protection of cultural heritage and the various roles played by law enforcement agencies in Italy.
The event started with a welcome address by Dr. Anirudh Sridhar, Associate Dean, Alliance School of Liberal Arts, Alliance University, who emphasized the importance of tangible and intangible heritage and the need to create awareness among students and professionals.
Marco Ferretti, Brigadier General of the Guardia di Finanza, spoke on “Protecting Made in Italy: The Guardia di Finanza (GdiF) and Anti-Counterfeiting”. He discussed various aspects of law enforcement in Italy, the role of the GdiF, and its efforts to protect Made in Italy products.
The second presentation was delivered by Ten. Col. Silvio Mele from the Carabinieri Headquarter in Rome on “Italian Protection and Recovery of Cultural Heritage: Activity of Carabinieri”. He spoke about the functions and tasks of the CC Corps, the protection of national artistic heritage, and operational cases.
The insightful and thought-provoking event was attended by a diverse group of students and faculty from multiple disciplinary backgrounds.
Focussing on strengthening India-Italy cooperation, the Vice-Chancellor of Alliance University, Dr. Anubha Singh discussed strategic global partnerships priorities including collaborative opportunities for creative and cultural activities.
The event is part of Alliance School of Liberal Arts’ sustained engagement with different aspects of the creative economy in India and the world.
