Alliance University's MDP Department conducted the third inter-university Book Review Competition, Saransh 2023 in February, garnering a great response from several universities across the city. The competition aimed to promote the practice of reading books that addresses the decline in reading habits among students. In this digital age, there is a lot to benefit from having habits such as reading books that quench one’s intellectual curiosity. Books can provide useful information, but they can also teach you one an entirely new way of thinking.
The list of books provided for review included titles such as "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey, "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell, and "Ikigai: The Japanese secret to a long and happy life" by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia. The most popular book of the event was “Ikigai: The Japanese secret to a long and happy life by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia.” Simply put, Ikigai means, “purpose of life.” The book rightfully reaffirms Ikigai for everyone - a reason to jump out of bed each morning. It tells that when one is in a state of flow, they focus on work and not on distractions.
The event showcased a true clash of titans with every team innovating and executing to the best of their capabilities. Dr. Ajay Kumar Yadav, Interim Dean at Alliance School of Business, one of the judges for the event stated at the closing ceremony, “As difficult as it was to decide on the winners, I would want you all to know that it is not about crossing the line to become first or second that is of essence here. It is the drive to read, review and execute your learnings in this manner that makes each student present here to stand out from the crowd.”
The competition saw participation from colleges such as Don Bosco Institute of Technology, HAL Management Academy, Christ (Deemed to be University), Central Campus, and Alliance University. In this event, Ramaiah Institute of Management event got the overall championship. The First Prize and the Best of Best Speakers award was won by Global Institute of Business Studies. Christ University, Yeshwanthpur Campus took home the second prize. Don Bosco Institute of Technology thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience as well as the serenity which is a part and parcel of the Alliance University experience.
Alliance University students also brought their A-game and showcased their seasoned experience in the competition just as the host institute.
