Programme Launch of Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Sustainability, and ESG Research

The Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Sustainability, and ESG Research at Alliance University launched the following programmes at the undergraduate and executive education levels: Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Public Administration; Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Politics and Governance; Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Public Policy; and Executive Postgraduate Certificate in Corporate Sustainability and Policymaking.
During the launch, the Dean of Alliance School of Law, Dr. V Shyam Kishore, highlighted the dynamic relationship between law and governance, the pressing global challenges, and the centre's aim to drive impactful change.
The Pro-Chancellor, Mr. Abhay Chebbi, emphasized the transdisciplinary aspect of public policy and governance in alignment with sustainability and ESG research areas in achieving Viksit Bharat 2047—India's roadmap to becoming a developed nation by 2047. He talked about how ESG aspects such as human rights, labor laws, and climate change are pre-requisites to attract global investment in India.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Dr. Priestly Shan Boaz, mentioned the university's recent positioning as number one in the National Sustainability Impact Institutions Ranking (NSIIR), the publication of 382 top papers, the granting of six international patents, and how research papers on green energy and other eco-friendly objectives will help boost the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make a societal impact at large.
The Director of the Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Research, and ESG Research, Dr. Mukul Saxena, addressed social sensitivity and inclusivity in approaching challenges such as climate change. Furthermore, he explained the programme structure of the centre, which covers undergraduate programmes in public policy, politics and governance, and public administration.
The panel discussion on 'Forging the Way Ahead: Policymaking for Viksit Bharat 2047' featured three speakers: Dr. Sairam Bhat, National Law School of India University; Dr. Navneet Sharma, Director General, CIRC (CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition); and Dr. Ashwin Mahesh, Founder and CEO, LVBL Accelerator.
Dr. Ashwin Mahesh talked about the power asymmetry between the state, market, and society. Dr. Sairma Bhat, emphasizing that waste is a resource, shed light on the 'Right to Repair' framework by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, and why India must focus more on manufacturing in line with initiatives such as 'Make in India' and the Production Linked Incentives (PLI) scheme. Dr. Navneet Sharma covered the importance of balancing speed and scale in policy implementation, market dynamics, and the need for substantive policy communication.
