The esteemed Alliance School of Law received its newest cohort of students with great enthusiasm during the captivating event held from 20th to 22nd July. Dr. Kiran Dennis Gardner, the Dean of Law, addressed the incoming students, imparting valuable wisdom as they prepared to embark on their professional journey. She emphasized the significance of critical analysis, logical thinking, and reasoning as essential tools in seeking optimal solutions for the betterment of society.

The Inaugural Address, delivered by Mr. Abhay G Chebbi, the esteemed Pro-Chancellor of Alliance University, filled the students with immense pride as he shared the remarkable achievements of the university. Alliance University secured a commendable rank of 25th in the NIRF and stands as one of the premier law schools in the nation. Mr. Chebbi also quoted, 'change is imperative; change is powerful,' resonating deeply with the students and motivating them to embark on their academic journey with zeal and purpose. He extended heartfelt felicitations to the students for their dedication in reaching this momentous occasion and invited them to make Alliance University their cherished home—a place brimming with countless opportunities.

In a thought-provoking address, Dr. Anubha Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Alliance University, began by quoting H.L.A. Hart's theory of law, highlighting the distinction between "being obliged to follow" and "having an obligation to follow" a law. Using the Gunman example, she illustrated those true obligations stem from societal norms, transcending external circumstances, while compliance out of fear merely reflects psychological obligation. Reflecting on these profound concepts, she inspired the students to foster a just society, where obligations are embraced not out of fear, but as a shared sense of duty and moral responsibility.

Dr. Priestly Shan, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), engaged the students in an intellectually interesting discussion about the components of the university and individual success. Encouraging them to transcend boundaries and make a global impact, he emphasized the virtue of an insatiable hunger for knowledge. He urged the students to immerse themselves in profound reading, delving into the realms of books, cases, and articles. To foster holistic growth, he passionately encouraged active participation in diverse activities, including prestigious Moot court competitions—an opportunity to develop their legal knowledge and oratory skills.

The highlight of the program was the invigorating address by the esteemed Chief Guest, Mr. Jay Maroli, a distinguished Senior Counsel and Privacy Officer at Corporate Legal, GE Aerospace. He shared an inspiring quote from Albert Einstein, 'If you measure the success of a fish by its ability to climb a tree, you won't have it,' stressing the importance of perceptive judgments and precise communication in legal cases. Mr. Maroli illuminated the path for aspiring legal minds, leaving a lasting impression on the students.

On the final day of the orientation, Ms. Nandini Murali, Senior Associate at Parasaran Law Office in Chennai, expressed her heartfelt gratitude and shared fond memories of her time on the campus. She then proceeded to share her valuable insights on various domains of law, including corporate law, company advisory, legislation, the Judiciary, Legal Journalism, Politicians, Human Rights Commissions, and NGOs.

Hon'ble Mr. Justice S.R. Bannurmath, Chairman of the Law Commission of Karnataka, addressed the students about the allure of law careers and shared his personal journey. He highlighted the significant changes in today's environment, particularly in terms of employment opportunities, pay scales, and advancements in technology. Stressing the importance of hard work, he advised the students to follow the motto, "Success comes after hard work."

As the curtain drew on this momentous occasion, the students were left enriched with invaluable insights and invigorated with the spirit of excellence and purpose. The Inaugural & Orientation Program set the stage for the students' odyssey at Alliance University—a journey that would unfold before them a world of boundless possibilities and transformative experiences.
