Alliance University observed Kuvempu Jayanti to commemorate the birth anniversary of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu, a prominent figure in Kannada literature. The event was organised by Kannada Sangha in association with Kannada Bhasha Kendra and the Department of Student Support Services, with sponsorship from the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka. Kuvempu’s legacy as a champion of peace, harmony, and universal brotherhood was celebrated through the observance of "Vishwamanava Day," reflecting his vision of a united humanity.
Special Address by Dr M. T. Rati
A significant highlight of the event was the special address by Dr M. T. Rati, Professor of Kannada at Christ (Deemed to be University). Dr Rati elaborated on Kuvempu’s contributions to Kannada literature and his philosophy. She discussed his literary genius and commitment to social justice, which were central to his works. Dr Rati emphasised that Kuvempu’s philosophy remains relevant in contemporary times and urged the younger generation to embrace his ideals to foster a more inclusive society. Her address provided a comprehensive understanding of Kuvempu’s approach to literature and its transformative potential.
Cultural Performances
The celebration included a musical concert by artists Rajesh V. Anekal, Nirmala, and their troupe, who captivated the audience with their performance. The concert added depth to the event, celebrating Kuvempu’s literary heritage through music and artistic expression.
Participation and Organisation
The heads of various departments, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students attended the event. Coordinators Dr Mithun Hanumesha, Prof. Kasaniya Naik, and Prof. Asharani played a vital role in organising the event. Students Manish and Samarth hosted the programme, while Kusuma M. and Deepa C. sang the prayer song, setting a reflective tone for the event.
Conclusion
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Vivekanand Sajjan. The event was a tribute to Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s lasting legacy and vision of universal brotherhood, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation of his life and works.
