The Central Library and IQAC of Alliance University Host a One-day Workshop on ‘Academic and Research Excellence and Strategies to Enhance Research Visibility, Citations and Impact’

The Central Library in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Alliance University, organized a one-day workshop titled "Academic and Research Excellence: Strategies to Enhance Research Visibility, Citations, and Impact." This workshop was specifically designed for faculty members and research scholars, aiming to provide valuable insights and practical strategies to elevate their academic and research endeavors. The focal points of the workshop was on increasing research visibility, citations, and impact. Distinguished experts in the field, namely Dr. Shubhra Dutta, Dr. Subhasree Nag, and Dr. Prakash I N, served as the esteemed resource persons for the event.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural session led by Dr. Prakash I N, Librarian, Alliance University who welcomed the resource persons and participants. This was followed by a keynote address by Dr. Anubha Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Alliance University who delivered a captivating speech, emphasizing the paramount significance of academic and research excellence while highlighting the dire need for researchers to augment their research visibility and impact.
The first session, conducted by Dr. Shubra Dutta, Customer Consultant, ELSEVIER focused on harnessing the power of the Scopus database. Dr. Dutta's session was dedicated to equipping participants with effective strategies to enhance research visibility and citations. Emphasizing the criticality of selecting appropriate journals, crafting compelling titles and abstracts, and optimizing keyword usage, she highlighted how these factors significantly contribute to research discoverability. Furthermore, Dr. Dutta shed light on leveraging the potential of social media, academic networking platforms, and institutional repositories to bolster research visibility and foster engagement within the scholarly community.
Further, the workshop had Dr. Subhasree Nag, Senior Solution Consultant, Clarivate Analytics leading the second session centered on the Web of Science Database. Dr. Nag, a renowned expert in research impact assessment and academic metrics, delved into strategies to amplify research impact and enhance citations. She delved into various metrics, such as the h-index, citation counts, and altmetrics, providing valuable insights into their significance when evaluating research impact. Additionally, Dr. Nag emphasized the pivotal role of collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and effective science communication in maximizing the impact of research endeavors.
Further, the workshop continued with an informative session focused on leveraging Derwent Innovation, a comprehensive patent research platform, to foster academic and research excellence. Dr. Subhasree Nag expertly guided the participants through the platform's diverse features and functionalities, effectively showcasing its potential to bolster research activities. Participants were provided comprehensive guidance on conducting patent searches, exploring patent citations and families, and leveraging patent information to identify research opportunities. The resource persons also underscored the importance of patent analysis in evaluating technological trends, fostering competitive intelligence, and gauging commercialization potential.
Throughout the workshop, participants actively engaged with the resource persons during interactive sessions, seeking clarifications and exchanging knowledge. This vibrant learning environment facilitated fruitful discussions and knowledge sharing among participants. The resource persons further reinforced their teachings by sharing practical examples, case studies, and success stories, illustrating the concepts discussed.
The workshop concluded with a session by the librarian, who elucidated the range of library resources, services, and research support available to participants. The librarian shared insights on the pivotal role of leveraging the extensive resources and services offered by the library to enhance academic and research endeavors. This session encompassed an overview of the diverse resources available, including physical collections, e-books, scholarly journals, databases, and research tools. Additionally, the librarian highlighted the various research support services, such as literature search assistance, reference management tools, interlibrary loan, and document delivery services.
Ms. Sarita Jena, Assistant Librarian, expressed gratitude and delivered a vote of thanks, acknowledging the resource persons, participants, and the organizing team for their valuable contributions in making the workshop a success.
The knowledge acquired during this workshop is anticipated to significantly enhance the quality and impact of research conducted within the institution, thereby playing a pivotal role in advancing knowledge in the respective fields.
