The Intra-MUN 2024, organised by Alliance University, served as a platform for students to engage in discussions and debates on pressing global and national issues. The event aimed to develop diplomacy, leadership, and collaboration among participants.
Opening Ceremony and Leadership
The event began with an opening ceremony. The Chief Guest, Mr Mathew Thankachan, addressed the gathering and discussed the importance of diplomacy and critical thinking. Chief Aman Jha, Deputy Chief Charu Sabharwal, and Faculty Coordinator Dr Gyanashree Dutta guided the event.
Committees and Agendas
The committees and their agendas were introduced during the ceremony. The United Nations Security Council debated the agenda of "First World Countries and Their Involvement with Terrorism." The Lok Sabha discussed the "Current Reservation System in India" and "Religious Freedom in India." These topics encouraged participants to explore complex issues through research and dialogue.
Discussions in the Lok Sabha
The Lok Sabha committee held discussions starting with Zero Hour. Delegates debated reservation policies, the creamy layer system, and religious freedom. They showcased research and debating skills, addressing issues and proposing solutions. The sessions included a press conference and a resolution drafting process, allowing participants to apply critical thinking and problem-solving.
Deliberations in the United Nations Security Council
The United Nations Security Council addressed challenges such as arms proliferation, the balance between security and civil liberty, and the misuse of artificial intelligence. A crisis simulation tested the diplomatic skills of the delegates. Although no resolutions were passed, the focus remained on understanding issues and fostering collaboration.
Valedictory Ceremony
The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony. Speakers, including Dr. Rajat Banerjee, Mr. Mathew Thankachan, and Dr Upankar Chutia, emphasised the role of MUN in shaping future leaders. Committee Chairs summarised the discussions and outcomes while providing feedback to participants. Awards were presented to delegates across committees. The Delegate of Germany and Ms Supriya Sule's portfolio were recognised as Best Delegates in their respective committees.
Conclusion
