Alliance University Celebrates People and their Diversity on International Human Rights Day

On International Human Rights Day, The Constitutional and Human Rights Centre, Alliance School of Law, Alliance University organised a panel discussion to deliberate on the “Dimension of Human Rights in 21st Century”.
The event started with Dr. Vedashree A., Associate Professor, Alliance School of Law welcoming all the participants and guests to take the Human Rights Pledge. The pledge was administered by Dr. Punith Cariappa, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Administration & Affairs), Alliance University to all the students, faculty members, and staff present.
After the administration of pledge, the panel discussion started with Dr. B.S. Reddy, Director - Center for Postgraduate and Legal Studies, Alliance School of Law; Dr. Rajan Varghese, Program Director - Ph.D., Alliance School of Law; and Dr. Dunia Prince Zongwe, Associate Professor, Alliance School of Law as panel members. The panel was presided by Dr. Kiran Gardner, Dean, Alliance School of Law.
Dr. B.S. Reddy deliberated on constitution and right to education. He emphasized on the aspects of right to education and right to life in aspects of poverty across the world. Dr. Rajan Varghese threw light on the rights of labour or employees and role played by Supreme Court of India in giving new dimensions to the labour rights in many cases such as Muttamma vs. Union of India. Dr. Dunia Prince Zongwe presented a comparison of the human rights in African countries. Dr. Prince highlighted on discrimination, definition, types, factors driving discrimination etc. in the context of human rights. He also emphasised on social media and its role in protecting Human rights.
The event was very well received by the participants and concluded with highly impactful inputs from panellists on Human Rights and closing remarks by Prof. Mamatha R., Assistant Professor, Alliance School of Law. The International Human Rights Day also marked the way Alliance University celebrates people from diverse backgrounds as the biggest strength and shares with them the values of dignity.
