16 July, 2024
The International Faculty Development Program on Financial Modeling, led by distinguished speakers Dr. Narayanaswamy R. and Dinesh Saboo, concluded successfully. Dr. Narayanaswamy R, Consultant, Teaching & Advisory at TimesPro Personal Finance Coach, and Dinesh Saboo, CFA, Fintech Product Visionary, Credit and Risk Specialist, Writer, and Keynote Speaker, delivered comprehensive sessions in a hybrid format.
Foundational Excel Skills and Economic Model Structuring
Participants began by developing foundational Excel skills and learning the structure of financial models. This included learning essential formulas and understanding the key components of an economic model. They also gained insights into industry analysis, focusing on sector classifications and business drivers, and learned methods to translate industry analysis into sector forecasts.
Business Valuation and Risk Calculation
The program then moved on to constructing discounted cash flow (DCF) business valuation models, where participants used realistic cash flow forecasts and assumptions. They also performed comparative peer analysis for relative valuation. In addition, the program addressed finance functions and risk calculation, covering Excel functions such as PV, NPV, and IRR, and teaching methods for calculating systematic and unsystematic risks through statistical techniques.
Advanced Financial Modeling and M&A Applications
In the advanced segment, participants engaged with complex financial modeling scenarios, including Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) modeling. They learned about assumptions, purchase price calculations, financial statement projections, and EPS accretion/dilution analysis. The program also included scenario analysis techniques and interactive discussions on common modeling mistakes, best practices, and model validation.
Conclusion
The program significantly enhanced participants' financial modeling skills and provided practical knowledge for their professional development.
