Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at Alliance University hosts IEDM 2023 - a Six-Day Online FDP
26 February, 2023
The Six Days Online International Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Innovations in Engineering Design and Management (FDP IEDM 2023) was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Alliance University from 20th to 25th February 2023. The program was a tremendous success with more than 200 registered participants. The program was aimed at enhancing the knowledge and expertise of faculties, research scholars, and students in various fields related to engineering design concepts with strategic management for successful product design and development. The program was enriched by the presence of eminent speakers from various reputed Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) and Multinational Corporations (MNCs), who shared their valuable insights around latest research and development in these areas.
The program was coordinated by faculty members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering: Dr. Sourabh Mandol, Dr. Abhay Gupta, Dr. Girish BM and Dr. Mohit Hemanth Kumar. The program started with an inaugural speech by the program coordinators. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Reeba Korah, Professor and Interim-Dean, Alliance College of Engineering and Design and Dr. B. M. Girish, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Alliance University, Bengaluru with the welcoming speech to the participants.
Day 1 - Dr. Agyapal Singh from New York University (NYU), Abu Dhabi, UAE, delivered a lecture on Nature-inspired strut and sheet-based stochastic composite materials for biomedical and energy absorption applications, and the participants got in-depth knowledge of composite materials with an emphasis on biomedical and energy absorption applications.
Day 2 - An informative lecture on Reverse Engineering - A Biomedical Engineering Perspective was delivered by Dr. T Ramesh, Associate Professor, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli. The expertise of the speaker includes Engineering Design, Finite Element Methods, MEMS and Micro Devices, Biomaterials and Powder Metallurgy. His lecture focused on the applications of reverse engineering for biomaterials.
Day 3 - Dr. Saurav Dash, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Kakinada, presented a lecture on Management Decision Making. His research area includes optimization, econometric modelling, and Data Analytics. The strategies for effective decision making were the main focus of his lecture.
Day 4 - Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran, Assistant Professor, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar delivered an informative lecture on Design thinking for Engineering Innovations. He explained the engineering perspective of design thinking process.
Day 5 - Dr. Rajidi Shashidhar Reddy, Senior Technical Support Engineer, Ansys Software Pvt Ltd., Hyderabad, presented a lecture on Modelling of nonlinear structural mechanics: An orientation based on ANSYS. The capabilities of engineering simulation software for structural analysis were discussed and the participants got in-depth knowledge of modelling and simulation of structures having Geometric (large deformations, large strains), Material (plasticity, creep, viscoplasticity / viscoelasticty) and Boundary (contact) nonlinearity using ANSYS software.
Day 6 - Shri Subhransu Chatterjee, Senior Manager, Projects & Planning Division, West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited, Kolkata, delivered a lecture on Innovative solutions to solar plant implementation and its challenges. His lecture presented a practical outlook on implementing technologies related to the implementation of floating solar PV panels as a live project, highlighting the issues associated with it and the mitigation of challenges.
The program was conducted for six days and consisted of informative and insightful sessions. The speakers shared their experiences and knowledge, which helped the participants understand the latest scientific and technological developments in engineering design and management. The participants were also provided with ample opportunities to interact with the speakers and ask questions, which made the program even more engaging and informative. Feedback for all sessions in the program was taken after the completion of every session from the attended participants. The program received an overwhelmingly positive response and appreciation from all the participants regarding the conduction of the FDP, management, and the quality of the lecture delivered by the speakers.
