Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Design to Print: 3D Printing Competition and Workshop on Nation-Building
16 October, 2024
Alliance University, in collaboration with Electro-Optical Systems (EOS) GmbH, India, and the National Design & Research Forum (NDRF IEI), successfully hosted the Dr A P J. Abdul Kalam Design to Print: 3D Printing Competition and Workshop on Nation-Building. This event aimed to showcase how 3D printing technology can drive innovation in various sectors, contributing to the development and progress of the nation.
The competition and workshop provided a platform for students, educators, and industry professionals to engage in discussions on how additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, can address key national challenges. The event drew inspiration from Dr A P J Abdul Kalam’s visionary ideas about the role of technology in building a strong and self-reliant India.
Participation and Insights from Experts
A significant highlight of the event was the participation of distinguished experts from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and academia. Renowned personalities like Padma Bhushan Dr B N Suresh, Padmashri Dr Prahlada Rama Rao, Padmashri Dr A S Kiran Kumar, Dr P S Subramanyam, Dr B V A Rao, and Lt Gen (Dr) V J Sundaram delivered keynote addresses during the workshop.
These experts shared their experiences and knowledge about the importance of science and technology in advancing India’s interests and the legacy of Dr Kalam. Their presentations highlighted key milestones in the fields of aerospace, defence, and technology, demonstrating how these sectors contribute to the growth of the nation. The insights provided by these leaders were valuable in helping participants understand the relevance of innovation in modern nation-building efforts.
Collaboration and Organisation
The Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Design to Print event was a collaborative effort involving multiple departments at Alliance University, particularly the Centre of Excellence in Additive Manufacturing, Makerspace, and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at the Alliance College of Engineering and Design. The organising teams ensured that the event created a comprehensive learning environment, focusing on both theoretical knowledge and practical application.
By collaborating with academic and industry leaders, Alliance University provided a platform where participants could explore new technologies and engage with experts who have made significant contributions to science and technology in India. This collaboration was key to the success of the event and encouraged open dialogue on the role of technology in national development.
3D Printing Competition and Engagement
The event also featured a 3D printing competition, which encouraged participants to develop creative solutions using 3D printing technology. The competition aimed to challenge students and professionals to think critically about how additive manufacturing can be applied to real-world problems, particularly in the context of nation-building.
Participants worked on projects that aligned with Dr Kalam’s vision for India’s technological development. Through their work, they demonstrated how 3D printing can be used to innovate across sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, and aerospace. This hands-on approach allowed participants to explore the practical applications of the technology while addressing broader themes related to national progress.
Future Prospects
Alliance University expresses its appreciation to all the participants, collaborators, and speakers who contributed to the event's success. Moving forward, the University remains committed to promoting innovation through similar initiatives that inspire future leaders and innovators. This event serves as a reminder of Dr Kalam’s legacy and the importance of advancing science and technology to build a stronger nation.
By fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration, Alliance University continues to align its efforts with Dr Kalam’s vision of a technologically empowered India.
