Celebrated International Women's Day based on the theme Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress

On March 7, 2024, Alliance University hosted an event marking International Women's Day based on the theme 'Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,' which emphasized the importance of gender equality and women's empowerment. The day was filled with engaging discussions, interactive workshops, and thought-provoking talks, highlighting the importance of investing in women's education, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
Dr. Puja Raj, Assistant Professor, Alliance School of Liberal Arts and Humanities, gave an opening address that set a resonant tone for the event, emphasizing the significance of International Women's Day. Dr. Suvarna Ramachandran honored the occasion with her rendition of Saraswathi Vandanama.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Mamatha Ravi, Assistant Professor at Alliance School of Applied Mathematics, Secretary of the Alliance Centre for Women Empowerment, and Ms. Neha Sethi, HR Director, who, in her inaugural address, emphasized the importance of investing in women to drive progress.
Dr. Priestly Shan Boaz, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), emphasized the importance of education for women and encouraged increased participation in tech-based competitions, particularly those hosted within our college community.
Esteemed guests Smt. Vijayasree M. K., Senior Scientist, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and notably, the Operations Manager of Chandrayaan-2 and the Project Manager of Chandrayaan-3, and Mr. Samarth Mahajan, a Mumbai-based filmmaker and National Film Award winner recognized by IIT Kharagpur as a Young Alumni Achiever, were warmly welcomed, adding to the anticipation of the day's discourse.
Smt. Vijayashree M. K., in her keynote speech, which was centered on achieving work-life balance, prompted introspection on strategies for holistic well-being. Mr. Samarth Mahajan engaged the audience with insights on establishing relationships among diverse individuals, drawing from his acclaimed short film. His speech resonated deeply with the audience, inspiring reflection and dialogue on the power of unity and inclusivity in creating a harmonious society.
Dr. Ramalakshmi K., Deputy Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the organizing committee, volunteers, and participants.
Parallel events such as Blind Programming, a clue hunt, a self-care workshop, and a fitness session, along with a Makeup competition, illustrated Alliance University's commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
