Empowering Student Voices on Republic Day: AUMUN Society organizes ‘Pick & Speak’ Competition

Alliance University Model United Nations Society (AUMUN Soc.) hosted a ‘Pick & Speak’ competition to commemorate India’s 74th Republic Day. The purpose of the event was to increase public knowledge of the Indian Constitution, its characteristics, and the individuals who contributed to its construction. The event also encouraged students from Alliance School of Law and Alliance College of Engineering & Design to increase their understanding of fundamental rights and obligations, state policy directives, and other essential components of the Constitution.
Students were given two minutes to speak on the spot after picking a topic from various options such as:
- National Education Policy (NEP) - A Way Forward?
- Sustainable Development - The Optimal Goal
- Equal Representation in Workspace, Recognizing the Third Gender
- Hate Speech, Privacy on Social Media
- Recognition of Sex-Workers in India
- Overpopulation is a Curse or a Boon?
- Ecology v. Human Development, Relevance of Vocational Courses, etc.
Dr. Gyanashree Dutta, Assistant Professor, Alliance School of Law and faculty coordinator for AUMUN Soc. kicked off the competition with a welcome note. Dr. Prakash Kanive, Professor, Alliance School of Law and Dr. Abhishek Srivastava, Assistant Professor, Alliance School of Law judged the competition and assessed students on their knowledge, speaking abilities, critical thinking skills, body language, speech structure, substance, and ability to stay inside the allotted time limit.
After thoughtful presentations by students, the top three were awarded, while the others were given participation certificates. Medals and certificates were given out by the professors, with Dr. Abhishek Srivastava offering advice to assist students on further developing their oratory skills.
Mr. Keshav Pandey from Alliance School of Law, Mr. Utsav Pathak from Alliance College of Engineering & Design, and Mr. Sriram from Alliance School of Law impressed the judges and were declared the competition winners. The competition not only provided a platform for students to showcase their oratory abilities but also gave them a unique opportunity to express their right to free speech and learn more about the Indian Constitution. The event was a testament to the importance of understanding fundamental rights and obligations, state policy directives, and other essential components of the Indian Constitution.
