The Office of Career Advancement and Networking (CAN) at Alliance University conducted the third edition of Vivechana: Legal Conclave 2024, consolidating the theme on the topic 'New Era of Sports in India: Legal Challenges' on February 10, 2024, at The Lalit Ashok Hotel, Bengaluru.
Dr V Shyam Kishore, Professor and Interim Dean, Alliance School of Law, welcomed the audience in his welcome address by highlighting the importance of choosing sports law as this year's theme of Vivechana.
The Pro-Chancellor of Alliance University, Mr Abhay Chebbi, illuminated the purpose of Vivechana and talked about the role of higher educational institutions (HEI) in supporting sportspeople and nurturing the educational ecosystem in India.
Dr Ray Titus, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Incubation and Innovation) and Dean of the Alliance School of Business, spoke in his inaugural address about how social conditioning nurtures people through mediums such as sports.
The guest of honor, Mr Arjun Devaiah Theethamada, recipient of the Rajyotsava Award in 1992 and the Ekalavya Award in 1993, talked about the importance of sports in transforming society and how collective fraternity can potentially enhance the sports environment in India.
Keynote speaker, Adv. Nandan Kamath, enlightened the audience on 'Why Sports Law Matters?', stressing the autonomy of sports organizations and regulatory bodies in India, supported by the 'Fundamental Principles of Olympianism'.
Panel Discussions
The first panel, 'India's Bid for the 2036 Olympics and Policy Concerns, convened experts, including Mr Santosh Vikram Singh, a senior partner at Fox Mandal & Associates; Ms Manuja Veerappa, assistant editor at The Times of India; and Mr Ankit Suri, AGM for Legal & Strategy at ITW Consulting Pvt. Ltd.
The second panel, 'Esports in India: Future, Prospects, and Regulation', featured Mr Arun Sadhanand Prabhu, Partner and Head of Technology & Telecom at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas; Ms Zerah Gonsalves, Co-Founder of GG Space; and Dr Abhishek Srivastava, Assistant Professor, Alliance University.
The discussions were moderated by Dr Mukul Saxena, Professor and Director at the Center for PG and Legal Studies and the Center for Leadership and Public Policy at Alliance School of Law.
Ms Surekha Shetty, Registrar General, Alliance University, concluded the conclave with a vote of thanks, expressing her appreciation to all the delegates, attendees, and the organizing committee.
