10 January, 2024
On January 10, 2024, MBA students from Alliance University embarked on a knowledge-enriching journey as they explored the intricacies of e-commerce order fulfillment during their visit to the Anjenaya Fulfillment Center. This facility, a pivotal component of Flipkart's supply chain network, provided an invaluable opportunity for students to witness the operational framework that ensures seamless order fulfillment.
Welcoming Session:
The visit kicked off with a warm welcome from Mr. Janardhan, the Learning and Development Manager at the fulfillment center. His comprehensive introduction set the stage for the students, offering insights into the warehouse's layout and the essential functions performed within.
Warehouse Layout:
The sprawling Anjenaya Fulfillment Center, spanning five levels, meticulously organizes products into distinct categories on each floor. From CCC products and HVC on the ground level to electronics on the third floor, the facility optimizes space for efficient order processing.
Operational Teams:
- Inbound Team:
Responsible for product inspection, the Inbound Team follows the IBMSCM criteria to validate items, assigning a unique Warehouse ID (WID) tag before transfer to the Putting Team.
- Putting Team:
This team ensures accurate placement of products using location barcodes and organized cupboards, streamlining the storage process.
- Picking Team:
Swiftly locating products based on information recorded by the Putting Team, the Picking Team utilizes conveyors for efficient transfer to the Packaging Team.
- Packaging Team:
Responsible for proper packaging, the Packaging Team prepares products for transfer to the Motherhub within the warehouse.
Supply Chain Flow:
Products flow seamlessly from the fulfillment center to the Motherhub, acting as both a distribution and return center. The returned products are processed before dispatching products to Delivery Hubs in various districts for final customer delivery.
Outcome & Conclusion:
The industrial visit proved to be a valuable supplement to Alliance University's MBA curriculum, providing students with a real-world perspective on the challenges and innovations within the e-commerce sector. The exposure to inbound, putting, picking, and packaging operations, as well as the overall supply chain flow, deepened the students' understanding of the dynamic e-commerce industry. Special gratitude to Mr. Janardhan and the entire Anjenaya Fulfillment Center team for facilitating this informative and engaging visit.
