Alliance University hosted the fourth edition of the Alliance Literary Festival (ALF 4.0) from 13 to 15 February 2025. The festival was a platform for discussions on literature, culture, and intellectual exchange. Centred around the theme 'The Asian Century,' the event highlighted Asia’s role in shaping global culture, politics and the economy. The festival brought together literary enthusiasts, scholars, diplomats and policymakers.
Panel Discussions and Key Themes
The festival featured discussions on Asia’s economic growth, the impact of migration, environmental issues, the role of athletes and the region’s contributions to education, sports and innovation. The exchange of ideas encouraged cultural preservation and societal change. Sessions on regional literature and translation focused on Kannada and Tamil literary traditions. A special performance of Chhau dance from West Bengal added to the festival’s cultural aspect.
Speakers and Participants
ALF 4.0 featured over 120 speakers from more than 25 countries. Notable speakers included Javed Akhtar, Indian screenwriter and lyricist; Asako Yuzuki, Japanese author; Anil Kumble, sportsman; Palki Sharma Upadhyay, journalist; Perumal Murugan, Indian author; Sanjay Patel, Indian American animator and director at Pixar; and Rajdeep Sardesai, journalist. The sessions included interactive Q&A discussions, meet-the-author events and book signings.

Asia has been a centre of innovation and storytelling for centuries. From ancient philosophical texts to contemporary literature, Asia’s contributions have influenced global thought. ALF 4.0 recognised this legacy while exploring Asia’s role in global narratives. The discussions highlighted how literature and cultural expressions continue to shape ideas and perspectives.
