Alliance University hosted an international faculty seminar that focused on advancements in 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) communication technologies. The event was part of the IGSTC SING Project “IICT: Technology Demonstration and Expansion of 5G/IoT Educational and Experimental Testbeds in India.” The seminar featured presentations by Mr. Fabian Sowieja and Mr. Jubin Sebastian E, co-founders of IICT-International IoT Communication Technologies GmbH, Germany.
Technological Landscape
The seminar provided an overview of the current technology landscape, covering Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN), next-generation cellular technologies (5G/6G), Cellular IoT (NB-IoT, LTE-M), and proprietary technologies. It emphasized the need for systematic evaluation environments and testbed-oriented approaches.
IICT's Multi-Technology Testbed Demonstrator
The presentation included a demonstration of the IICT's multi-technology testbed. The focus was on technologies such as 5G, MIoTY, and LoRaWAN, highlighting the testbed's configuration and features.
Educational Integration
The seminar stressed the importance of integrating hands-on training with testbeds into academic curricula. This approach aims to prepare faculty for research and development in the field.
Use Cases and R&D Projects
The seminar also covered real-world applications of IoT communication technologies in Germany and explored potential applications relevant to the Indian context.
Conclusion
The seminar concluded with discussions on establishing a Centre of Excellence to provide advanced technological resources for students and faculty. Appreciation was extended to Dr. Aby K Thomas, Professor at Alliance College of Engineering and Design, and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering for coordinating the event.
