Alliance University hosted the Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Design to Printathon, a national workshop on nation-building and 3D printing. The event was organized in collaboration with EOS GmbH India Branch Office, the National Design & Research Forum (The Institution of Engineers, India), and IEEE. The workshop aimed to inspire innovation and development, aligning with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s vision for the nation.
Welcome and Presidential Addresses
The Dean of the Alliance College of Engineering and Design, Dr. Reeba Korah, delivered the welcome address and expressed the university's pride in hosting the event. Following this, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Incubation and Innovation), Dr. Ray Titus, delivered the presidential address. He emphasized the significance of innovation and development in alignment with Dr. Kalam's vision.
Event Purpose and 3D Printing Applications
The Registrar, Dr. Matam Viswanathaiah, introduced the event's purpose, highlighting its focus on innovation and nation-building. Dr. Solomon Bobby, Director of Training at EOS India, discussed the applications of 3D printing and its potential in contributing to nation-building.
Panel Reflections on Dr. Kalam’s Legacy
The Former Director of Central Power Research Institute and Director of NDRF (IEI), Dr. Seetharamu Subramanyam, honored the expert panelists and reflected on Dr. Kalam's legacy. The panelists shared their experiences and thoughts on Dr. Kalam’s impact:
Padma Bhushan Dr. B. N. Suresh shared his personal experiences with Dr. Kalam and highlighted his leadership in space science.
Padma Shri Dr. Prahlada Rama Rao spoke about Dr. Kalam's role in developing the Agni missile and his mentorship of young scientists.
Dr. P. S. Subramanyam reflected on Dr. Kalam's mentorship during the development of the Tejas aircraft.
Dr. B. V. A. Rao discussed Dr. Kalam's contributions to engineering education and his encouragement to students.
Lt. Gen. Dr. V. J. Sundaram highlighted Dr. Kalam's role in promoting advanced technologies and shared memories of his guidance during critical projects.
Conclusion and Acknowledgements
The event concluded with a special address by Mr. Prakasam Anand, Country Head at EOS GmbH India Branch Office. Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Associate Professor & HOD (In Charge) of the ACED, delivered the vote of thanks.
