Alliance University Hosts Advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics Workshop with Fluidyn
01 February, 2025

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) plays an important role in addressing engineering challenges by providing insights into fluid flow behaviour. It helps in optimising industrial designs, improving sustainability, and ensuring safety in engineering applications. To equip students and professionals with industry-relevant skills, Alliance University organised the Advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics Workshop in collaboration with Fluidyn Consultancy Private Limited. The workshop aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of CFD applications in different engineering domains, helping participants enhance their technical expertise.
Hands-on Training in CFD Applications
The workshop provided practical training in CFD applications, covering geometry modelling, mesh generation, and analysis using Fluidyn software. Participants were introduced to the fundamental concepts of CFD, followed by detailed demonstrations of software tools used in industry. Through hands-on exercises, they developed a deeper understanding of the processes involved in simulating fluid flow and heat transfer. The sessions were designed to familiarise attendees with best practices in CFD modelling, ensuring accuracy and reliability in their simulations. By working on real-world case studies, participants gained practical experience in solving engineering problems using CFD techniques.
Industry-Relevant Learning
Organised under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), the workshop explored various CFD applications, including aerodynamics, HVAC system design, and environmental impact assessments. Experts guided participants through different aspects of industrial design optimisation, reinforcing the importance of CFD in engineering education. The training sessions also included discussions on computational methods and their applications in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing. Participants learned about the role of CFD in predicting airflow, analysing thermal performance, and evaluating environmental effects. This exposure provided them with valuable insights into how computational tools aid in decision-making and design enhancement.
Focus on Innovation in Engineering Education
The workshop emphasised sustainability and safety engineering by demonstrating how CFD contributes to efficient design solutions. Through structured modules, participants explored methods for improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and enhancing product performance. Special attention was given to how CFD simulations assist in evaluating safety measures, minimising risks, and complying with industry regulations. Participants engaged in discussions on how CFD techniques can be applied to real-world scenarios, enabling them to develop problem-solving skills applicable to their respective fields. The workshop also highlighted emerging trends in CFD, including advancements in simulation algorithms, automation, and artificial intelligence integration, preparing attendees for future developments in the field.
Conclusion
Through this initiative, Alliance University reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation in engineering education. By providing hands-on exposure to advanced CFD applications, the workshop contributed to the development of practical skills, preparing students and professionals for industry challenges. Participants left with a better understanding of the capabilities of CFD tools and their relevance in modern engineering practices.
