The Alliance School of Law at Alliance University held the orientation program for the B.A. L.L. B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. L.L. B. (Hons.) Batch of 2024-29. The event was designed to introduce the new cohort to the academic and extracurricular opportunities and underlined the institution’s commitment to fostering a diverse and dynamic learning environment.
Dean’s Address on Program Complexity and Recent Competitions
Dr. V Shyam Kishore, Dean of Alliance School of Law, addressed the students and discussed the complexities of the law program and its role in developing critical thinking and engaging a diverse community. He highlighted the recent Justice N. Santosh Hegde National Moot Court Competition, 2024, which featured participants from across the country contributing to legal discourse through debates and presentations.
Rankings and Technological Impact
The Pro-Chancellor, Mr. Abhay G. Chebbi, discussed the school’s ranking as 25th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 and the role of technology in law, noting the digitization of 18,000 courts and its impact on access to justice. He emphasized three key principles: addressing injustice as a threat to justice everywhere, valuing trust, and preserving humanity.
Student Diversity and International Opportunities
The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Dr. Priestly Shan Boaz, mentioned that the current cohort includes over 240 students from 26 states across India, each bringing unique cultural perspectives. He shared his experience from a United Nations discussion on outer space laws in 2020 and the opportunities for studying abroad through the Office of International Affairs, which partners with over 80 foreign institutions.
Legal Profession and Societal Impact
The Hon'ble Dr. Justice H.B. Prabhakara Sastry provided insights into the legal profession in India, noting there are 20 lakh registered advocates, with 3 lakhs being women. He addressed the societal challenges and the value of learning from faculty to become responsible citizens.
Experiential Learning and Skill Development
The Professor and Director of the Centre for PG and Legal Studies and the Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Sustainability, and ESG Research, Dr. Mukul Saxena, spoke on how experiential learning through case studies enhances students' problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Gender Balance and Commitment to Equal Opportunities
The Registrar-General, Ms. Surekha Shetty, noted that 57% of the batch comprises of female students, thereby highlighting the university’s commitment to women's empowerment and equal opportunities in law.
