Model United Nations Society (MUNSoc) of Alliance School of Law (ASOL), Alliance University organized the Alliance University Intra-Model Nations Conference (AU MUN). This was organized to discuss, debate, and deliberate upon fundamental and pertinent global issues. The conference took place on 7th and 8th of November 2022.
AU MUN included two distinct committees with two different agendas in this edition of the conference. “United Nations Security Council” and “General Assembly 6 – Legal” with the agendas being “Review of the situation in Afghanistan”, and “Prevention of Arms Trafficking across the Globe” respectively. The conference was held for two consecutive days, which was further divided into six sessions. The inaugural session started with a welcome address by Dr. Kiran Dennis Gardner, Dean, Alliance School of Law. The entire conference was jam-packed with thought-provoking debate and brilliant solutions to very critical topics.
Day one of the conference had three sessions. The first session started off with the delegates getting to know the Executive Board. This was continued by a thorough explanation of the Rules of Procedures of a Model UN. The delegates also discussed the prevention of arms trafficking on a global level. The second session was held after the lunch break in which the delegates discussed the topics, they are going further to talk about which was continued by a fruitful debate about the consequences of arms trafficking around the globe. The third session was concentrated on the failure of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), which was followed by a question-answer session. Finally, the delegates had to form blocks for making resolutions in these matters.
Day two also had three sessions. The first session resulted in a massive influx of insightful discussion and recommendations for improving the situation in Afghanistan. A crisis was introduced combining the UN Security Council and General Assembly 6-Legal Committee “where both sides of the Afghan Leaders were assassinated by the opposite sides with the help of China and Russia on one side and NATO on the other”. This stirred up the committee even more and created more confusion but at the end wonderful presidential statements and initiatives were given to address the issue. The third session proceeded similarly, finally making the press release, which was voted upon by the committee but rejected because of ideological differences.
The closure of the event happened with Dr. Punith Cariappa, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Administration and Affairs), Alliance University presented the awards for the Best Delegate to United Kingdom, Commendable Delegate to Uruguay and Honorable Delegate to Sudan.
