The Alliance Doctoral Research and Innovation Symposium (ADRIS) 2024, hosted by Alliance University, brought together research scholars and experts from various fields to explore developments in business, engineering, law, and liberal arts. The symposium provided a platform to address real-world problems through research and foster academic growth.
Welcome Address and Acknowledgements
Professor and Associate Director of Research, Ms Sheila Mahapatra, welcomed the participants and acknowledged the leadership of the Honourable Pro-Chancellor, Mr Abhay G. Chebbi, and Vice-Chancellor, Dr Priestly Shan Boaz. She emphasised the importance of quality research publications and the visibility of academic work in the global research landscape.
Insights from the Vice-Chancellor
Vice-Chancellor Dr Priestly Shan Boaz highlighted the need for doctoral research to produce tangible outcomes such as innovative products. He discussed the significance of faculty members gaining industry exposure to guide research scholars in addressing industry-driven problems and delivering meaningful research contributions.
Emerging Research Trends and Interdisciplinary Focus
Dr Ray Titus, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Incubation and Innovation) and Dean of the Alliance School of Business, discussed emerging research trends in medical sciences and emphasised the interdisciplinary nature of research. He referred to Daniel Kahneman’s works on decision-making and behavioural economics to illustrate how psychological insights transform research in various domains, including medical sciences.
Opportunities for Research Scholars
Joint Director and Scientist at DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, Dr T Ram Prabhu, shared insights on funding opportunities, research grants, internships, and placement support available for research scholars. He stressed the importance of developing multidisciplinary PhD problem statements that align with the Centres of Excellence (CoE) to achieve outcomes such as employment opportunities, entrepreneurial ventures, and innovative solutions to industry challenges.
Perspectives on Startups and Business Opportunities
Dr Gary W Paul, Chief ESG Officer and HR Director at Enfin Energy Finance, Bloemfontein Metropolitan Area, discussed the role of startups and entrepreneurial ventures in creating business opportunities for researchers. He encouraged scholars to explore innovative approaches that could translate their research into impactful ventures.
