The School of Applied Mathematics at Alliance University Hosts the Alliance International Conference in Mathematical Sciences (AICMS 2023)

Alliance International Conference in Mathematical Sciences (AICMS 2023) with the theme "Mathematics and Statistics Fundamentals in Data Science" was held on 28th and 29th April 2023 at Alliance University Central Campus in Bengaluru. The conference hosted by Alliance School of Applied Mathematics aimed at bringing together experts from diverse fields of Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science to share their research, exchange ideas and discuss the latest developments in the field.
The conference began with an inauguration, where Prof. Mihir Dash welcomed all the guests and participants. Dr. Anubha Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Alliance University addressed the gathering, shared her insights and perspectives about the vast arena of Applied Mathematics. The Chief Guest for the Conference Inaugural, Dr. Pradeep G. Siddheshwar (F.I.M.A. - UK, F.N.A.Sc. - India), Senior Professor and Director - Centre for Mathematical Need Department of Mathematics (CHRIST University) spoke about the importance of mathematics for data science. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Elena Zarova, Professor, Elected Member and Council Member of the International Statistical Institute (UN), Professor of Statistics Department of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Deputy Head of Department of the Analytical Center of Moscow City Government shared insights about the importance of statistics in data science. Guest of Honour, Mr. Amitbikram Acharya, Senior Vice President, Analytics and Information Management, Citibank also spoke about the scope of data science. During the inaugural, a publication of abstracts of select papers was unveiled by the guests.
The first Plenary session by Dr. Rituparna Sen, Associate Professor at the Applied Statistics Division, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore was on ‘Functional Data Analysis with Application in Finance’. The second plenary talk by Dr. Elena Zarova was about ‘Methods of Statistics and Machine Learning on The Trajectory of Ascendant Analytics’. The third plenary talk was delivered by Dr. Maxim Olshanii, Professor, Department of Physics, University of Massachusetts at Boston, who spoke on ‘Some Empirical Implementations of the Multi-Dimensional Reflection Group’.
The second day of the conference started with the fourth plenary session by Dr. Praween Agrawal, Professor, Department of Mathematics, Anand International College of Engineering, Rajasthan, India, who shared insights on ‘Fractional Model Analysis of Infectious Diseases’. The fifth plenary session was delivered by Dr. Sreenivasan Ravi, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Studies in Statistics, University of Mysore. The title of his talk was “On a Few Great Ideas in Chance and Reinforcement Learning’. The sixth plenary talk was delivered by Dr. Karmeshu, Director, Centre of Stochastic Modelling and Simulation, India. He is the Distinguished Professor, School of Computer Science, UPES, Dehradun, India and Chairman, Scientific Computing Panel, Naval Research Board, DRDO, India. The title of his talk was ‘Role of Mathematical Modelling in the study of System Dynamics’. The plenary sessions were followed by parallel paper presentations. Students from the Quantix Club (Statistics and Mathematics Club of Alliance University) performed a cultural event in the evening. The valedictory Function was chaired by Dr. Sreenivasan Ravi.
The conference had several expert speakers who delivered talks on various topics related to the theme of the conference. The conference also featured several plenary sessions, where experts from different fields of mathematics, statistics, and data science discussed various topics related to the theme of the conference.
