Alliance reimagines the idea of the university by creating a community that leads the charge against the complex challenges of the 21st century. The university conceives research to be the essence of all teaching and learning practices. A unity between research and teaching is promoted to extend the frontiers of knowledge in order to solve real world problems at the local, national, and global scale. For this purpose, the university seeks to be the nerve centre of interaction between the industry, the government, the civil society, and the community at large. In times when technological and social change is transforming the very idea of employability, the university embraces the increasing diversity of specializations while retaining the impulse to unify all knowledge. A designed convergence of the business, engineering, law and liberal arts units precipitates transdisciplinarity as the core academic philosophy. Freely working across divergent streams of knowledge like public policy and data science, technology and law, physics and philosophy or businesses and rhetoric, transdisciplinarity nurtures a dynamic foundation for the spirit of collaboration, inquiry, and enterprise.
Department of Science was established to support the growing dependency on science from an interdisciplinary approach. The department is engaged in imparting quality education and focused research. Research areas of interest include polymer nanocomposites, coatings, food packaging’s, shape memory polymers, corrosion study, drug delivery, green composites, self-healing composites, laser spectroscopy, energy storage materials, membrane technology, water chemistry and purification, medicinal chemistry, etc. The department is dedicated to the betterment of the student community and the advancement of science and technology.
Sustainability, eco-friendly, reusability, and minimum wastage are the fundamentals of the circular economy. Climate change, population explosion, agricultural degradation, environmental pollution, and technology encroaching on privacy are the common problems that are affecting the peace and livelihood of people around the world. It is important to point out that the use of toxic chemicals, petroleum-based plastic products, etc., in one way or another makes the earth uninhabitable. Therefore, there is a quest for green or sustainable materials from renewable sources to replace toxic materials. The UN’s goals of 2030 are for inclusive sustainable development and 2022 is a year of science for sustainable development as declared by UNESCO. Also, the Paris agreement for sustainable development
emphasizes the need for zero carbon emission. To make this planet better, the need of the hour is to employ interdisciplinary research, and technological innovations, and infuse scientific temperament among every stakeholder.
Recently, there is an upsurge in the use of sustainable materials in all fields such as medicine, automotive, construction and building, water treatment, fuel sector,
and other industrial applications to reduce waste, pollution issues, and toxicity. However, the use of materials from renewable resources is still in small quantities
compared to traditional materials. Therefore, a conference on "Science for Sustainable Development (SSD 2022) is essential for awareness of sustainable development. It is very important to study, learn, and discuss with researchers across the globe to formulate guidelines for a sustainable ecosystem. This conference platform will provide knowledge exchange and collaborations with scientists and researchers across the globe.
The conference conveners cordially invite scientists, academicians, industry experts, and students from across the globe to be part of the International Conference
on Science for Sustainable Development to be conducted by the Department of Science and Centre of Excellence-Water Research, Alliance University, Bengaluru, India on December 9-10, 2022.
