Dr. Nishi Francis

Dr. Nishi Francis, holds a Doctorate of Philosophy and a Master of Philosophy in Development from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Her Doctoral Thesis titled ‘’The Role of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development: A Study of the Coal Mining Belt of Bardhaman in West Bengal’’ and M.Phil. Thesis titled ‘’The Role of Corporate Social Responsibility in Sustainable Rural Development: A Case Study Of Tata Steel, Kalinganagar’’ has been essentially based on understanding CSR and it's manifold potential with respect to development and resource management.

She holds a post-graduate degree in Management, with a specialization in Human Resource Management from the Xavier Institute of Management, Jabalpur and a masters degree in Public Administration too from the Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. She, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from Loreto College, Kolkata affiliated to the University of Calcutta as well.

Post her PGDM, Dr. Nishi worked as an Academic Associate, in the Organizational Behavior Area at the Xavier Labour Relations Institute, Jamshedpur, where she was crucially engaged in administrative coordination, resource management, teaching assistance and research support tasks too.

Her teaching and research interest lies in sustainability studies and sustainable development initiatives along with studies in philanthropy and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for development in India. Having worked extensively on cases related to development-induced displacement, Dr. Nishi is interested in exploring issues pertaining to the displacement of communities, project-affected families (PAFs) and also Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) of those affected pan-India. Furthermore, conducting research on the use of clean energy, participatory governance and management of natural resources is yet another area that interests Dr. Nishi.

Hailing from an academically diverse background, Dr. Nishi’s active engagement in presenting her research work both at National and International Conferences along with conducting Guest Lectures has not just added to her overall learning experience but also sharpened her research and teaching skills too. Presently, she is an active member of the International Sociological Association (ISA) Madrid, Indian Sociological Society (INSOSO), New Delhi and the National Association of Geographers India (NAGI), New Delhi.
