Legal Aid and Awareness Program Empowers Linganahalli Residents
12-13 April, 2024In a concerted effort to bridge the gap between legal understanding and grassroots communities, the Alliance School of Law, in collaboration with the Legal Services Authority of Bangalore and Doddaballapura, orchestrated a transformative Legal Aid and Awareness Program on April 12th and 13th, 2024, at Linganahalli, Doddaballapura taluk.
In this legal awareness program around 38 students took part and participated with full dedication towards the event. The initiative commenced on April 12th, as diligent law students from the Alliance School of Law traversed through approximately 300 households within the village. We prepared a questioner to ask village people and make a detailed note of it and focus on what problems they are facing and the basic facilities are given or not. Our mission: to meticulously document the residents' living conditions, legal challenges, and hurdles encountered in procuring essential documents such as ration cards, Aadhar cards, voter IDs, PAN cards, and driving licenses. We found lot of issues faced by the villagers and we had to analysis the issues and make a note of it.
On April 13th, the village witnessed a pivotal stage function, graced by the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Principal Senior Civil Judge Sri Aravinda Saibanna Hagarige of Doddaballapura taluk. In his address, he underscored the imperative for law students to transcend the confines of their campus and immerse themselves in rural landscapes, proactively discerning and addressing legal grievances.
Emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between legal education and societal welfare, Judge Hagarige urged the students to extend their outreach to neighboring educational institutions, fostering awareness on critical issues such as child rights and combating societal maladies like child labor, child marriage, and dowry systems. The event also welcomed officials from various government departments including revenue, forest, education, and panchayat, who attentively listened to the villagers' grievances, signaling a collaborative approach towards community empowerment.
A notable highlight of the gathering was the insightful address by progressive luminary, former Smt. Sujatha, who advocated for the promotion of organic farming and the preservation of indigenous cattle breeds.
Mr. Krishnaprasad, a local press reporter and para-legal volunteer, was instrumental in orchestrating this milestone initiative, underscoring the pivotal role of media in amplifying community-driven endeavors.
The event was presided over by Senior Professor Dr. BS Reddy, with Program Director Dr. Devaiah and several other esteemed professors from the Alliance School of Law gracing the occasion.
Dr. Prakash Kanive, Coordinator for the Legal Services Clinic, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks.
Miss Soumya and Mr. Poojith expertly anchored the program, ensuring its smooth orchestration and impactful delivery. Many peoples of linganahali village attended the program and we identified the issue faced by them and we gave them a legal awareness towards the issue. The Legal Aid and Awareness Program in Linganahalli stand as a beacon of empowerment, embodying the ethos of community-driven legal advocacy and societal transformation.
