Skit performance by AULSC
19 May, 2023Law preserves the rights of women, but how far those rights are preserved by the society? Basic behavior of society towards women, infringement of her basic fundamental rights under the umbrella of tradition or age-old family system creating an authority over her is very common. Every woman is caged in some sort of stereotypical beliefs of the society, may not be same for each one of them. Concerning towards this, the student members of Alliance University Legal Services Clinic (AULSC), performed a short skit which was a commentary based on commonly occurring incidents with females. The skit was performed by four student members on 19th of May 2023 inside the campus near food court. The Skit was performed at around 1:00pm. The skit titles “Shackles” was a story of a middle-class girl who wanted to study further and get a better job, but as per the family system, she was denied further education by her father and later denied opportunity to work and to feel empowered, by her husband.
The word “shackles” means caging, the skit showed how each restriction imposed on the girl tied her up and caged her. The objective of the skit was to untie the girl implied letting her to stand on her own feet and make wonders, cheering her up instead of caging and suffocating her under the societal stereotypes. The duration of the skit was around 5 minutes. It was overall a good experience for the students to come up and express their concerns in the form of “Nukkad Natak”.
