Socio-legal research was undertaken by a group of students at Alliance School of Law, Alliance University, Bangalore, namely Mr. Madhav Goyal, Miss. Archana Nair, Miss. Nishita Shetty, Miss. Aadarshika Chettri, Mr. Jeswanth Santhosh, Mr. Amogh Sharma on the a topic “A comparative study of implementation of RTE in Anekal and Electronic city of Bangalore” which was an initiative under Alliance University Legal Service Centre (AULSC).

The research was conducted with objective to examine the implementation of Right to Education laws in Anekal and Electronic city of Bangalore, by making a comparative study between rural and an urban area. The research involved surveying of government as well as private institutions subject to the RTE Act and analyzing the effectiveness of this Act and scrutinizing whether the RTE norms are followed in schools.

The research is a blend of both doctrinal as well as Empirical research, whereby legal provisions as-well-as judicial decisions have been analyzed under doctrinal research and the team had also undertaken an empirical research where they have surveyed the government as well as private institutions subject to the RTE Act in Anekal and Electronic city, Bangalore. Team had visited, interacted and obtained data from the students and authorities of Moulana Azad Model School, Anekal bazaar, Chandapura, Bangaloreon 17^th of September 2019, Sri Guruji Vidyanikethan School, Anekal bazaar, Chandapura, Bangalore on 17^th of September 2019, GSPS Maragondanahalli Government School, Jigani, Electronic City, Bangalore on 23^rd September, 2019 and Achiever’s Academy, Jigani, Electronic City, Bangalore on 23^rd September, 2019. During the interactions with students, the teams also spoke on the differential aspects of The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 and how they can get benefit out of it.

The outcome of the research with regard to the comparative study of implementation of RTE is that the Government must put their prime focus on the transparency of the selection of students in schools under the RTE Act as the powerful or the privileged take advantage of this facility and get their children admitted by wrong means instead of the poor students for whom the opportunity was originally provided. There is a need to make sure to make the schools and general public aware of the Act and its provisions and lastly initiatives must be taken to upgrade the infrastructure facilities of the government aided schools.

This project sensitized our own students regarding rights of underprivileged at the same time young budding lawyers contributed their mite in bringing awareness regarding the Right to Free and Compulsory Education of the children between the age of 6 to 14 years.
