The Intra Model United Nations 2024 Conference commenced on the morning of February 17th with an energetic Opening Ceremony. After the registration process, participants gathered in Seminar Hall 1 in the Learning Center, where the MUN Chief extended a warm welcome to everyone. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey, Director of Alliance Center for Criminal Justice Administration and Gender Studies, and Mr. Mathew T., from the Department of Student Support Services, also graced the occasion with their presence. The organizing committee provided an overview of the conference, distributed relevant materials, and briefed everyone on the agenda and rules of procedure, setting the stage for a productive and engaging experience.
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Committee convened promptly after the orientation in venue LHW301. The charged atmosphere reflected the delegates' enthusiasm to tackle the critical issue of "Countering Human Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery." The chair opened the session by outlining the committee's objectives and highlighting the urgency of addressing this global crisis. The experienced moderator and vice-chair facilitated the proceedings, ensuring orderly debate and adherence to protocol. The International Press (IP) was also present to document the discussions. Delegates from countries like North Korea, China, United Kingdom, and Ukraine were particularly active throughout the session, raising numerous motions and driving the discussions forward. After rigorous resolution drafting, the delegates presented their points of information (PoIs), and the chair guided them on how their resolutions could have been better structured. The Day 1 session witnessed a lively exchange of perspectives, with delegates advocating for robust international cooperation, comprehensive legal frameworks, and victim-centric approaches to combat these heinous crimes against humanity.
The next day, the focus was on the "Israel-Palestine conflict" in the UNSC, allowing the delegates to learn more about the issue and become acquainted with UNSC mandates. The chair also instructed the delegates on necessary research steps and argument framing techniques for MUN competitions. Following an informal discussion and an interactive session with the delegates, the adjudicator announced the winners. Mr. Harihara prasad K.R. was awarded the Best Delegate award, and Ms. Rapaka Himabindu was given an Honorable Mention. Overall, the two-day event ended on a high note. The UNHRC session came to a close with the ceremonial gavel bang by Dr. Upankar Chutia.
