EVENT

The Alliance Centre for Criminal Justice Administration and Gender Studies, an exclusive Centre for advanced research training, policy analysis and consultancy in the broader fields of Criminal Law, Criminal Justice and Victimology that intends to provide a forum to conduct and disseminate research and ideas in criminal justice. The Centre organized the Legal Research Essay Writing Competition on Criminal Law-2024 to encourage participants to promote quality research and learning and critical analysis on any given topic.

Before the competition, participants were informed of the four themes to allow them to prepare. Dr Amit Bhaskar, the Director of Alliance Centre for Criminal Justice Administration and Gender Studies, and the esteemed figure behind the event's theme selection, “CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEMS", meticulously curated four sub-themes based on the theme, each resonating with the Centre's commitment to gender justice and legal reform.

On April 13th, 2024, the event commenced with an inaugural ceremony hosted by Lasya (Student Coordinator) at 9:30 AM. Dr. Mukul Saxena, Professor & Director of the Centre for PG and Legal Studies & Centre for Leadership and Public Policy, and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey, Director of Alliance Centre for Criminal Justice Administration and Gender Studies, graced the occasion.

Dr. Mukul Saxena offered insightful guidance on approaching the task of writing a legal essay. His expertise in legal studies lent valuable outlook to the participants. Further, Dr. Mukul was requested to pick one of the sub-theme out of the 4 sub-themes already informed to the participants "Women and Criminal Law in India: An Analytical and Critical Study". Following suit, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey, emphasized the importance of analytical and critical research in research on any given topic.

The theme for this competition, "Women and Criminal Law in India: An Analytical and Critical Study," highlights the pressing need to inspect the legal frameworks governing women's rights and experiences within the criminal justice system. As an institution dedicated to advancing research, training, and policy analysis in criminal law and gender justice, the Centre aims to promote scholarly discourse, foster awareness, and advocate for reforms that ensure equitable treatment and protection of women within the legal framework.

After the inaugural ceremony, participants were guided to their designated seats by Jitya (Student Coordinator). They were provided with writing materials and commenced their essays promptly at 10:15 AM. The participants were tasked with writing an essays in 3000 to 6000 words, on the topic of "Women and Criminal Law in India: An Analytical and Critical Study".
