About the Centre
An exclusive Centre for advanced research training, policy analysis and consultancy in the broader fields of Criminal Law, Criminal Justice and Victimology - is a student-run body that intends to provide a forum to conduct and disseminate research and ideas in criminal justice.
Mission
To promote quality research and learning among students and faculties in the various segments of criminal law.
Objectives
To undertake specific research in various areas of criminal law specifically concentrating on interface of gender and criminal justice administration.
To propose training programs for professionals involved in the criminal justice system.
To promote a culture of research among both students as well as faculty, and to contribute to the advancement of education in Criminal Law.
To undertake publications and coordinate with various organizations working in the broader areas of criminology and victimology.
Aid governmental and non-governmental organizations in reducing crime by identifying the causes of crimes and providing legal help for victim assistance and rehabilitation programs.
Current Projects
The Research project on Rights of Prisoners:
Rights of Prisoners have been a concern for years now. There is an enormous body of literature about prisoner rights that has been generated over the last few years. In contrast to the usually discussed topics, the students have focused their research on specific areas or topics. Their work includes Rights to mental health of prisoners, Fair Trial Rights for undertrial prisoners, and Rights of Freedom of expression for prisoners, etc.
Preparation of Handbook on Women and Crime:
Towards the theoretical aspect of putting together information on contemporary topics regarding women and the criminal justice system, students have compiled a handbook covering crimes committed against women and related existing legal provisions.
The Journal of Criminal Justice and Gender Studies:
The Journal is driven entirely by students. This peer-reviewed Journal will be published half-yearly within the realm of Criminal law. The purpose of the journal is to cultivate a culture of research among students in the areas of criminal law.
Case Compendium:
As a stepping stone to develop case compendiums on topics related to Criminal Law, the center has developed a case compendium on dowry related cases.

Webinar: "Interactive session on Domestic Violence" by Dr. Aruna Bala
Dr. Aruna Bala is one of the authors of the booklet titled "Domestic Violence and the Indian Workplace". Presently, her research interests include self and identity orientation, dealing with domestic violence in the workplace, diversity, inclusion, and victimization. During the webinar with Alliance University students and faculty, she discussed Domestic violence and her booklet. In addition, she discussed various studies indicating that domestic violence cases have increased during the pandemic.
Symposium on "Exploring New Areas for Research In Criminal Law"
The symposium was inaugurated by Ms. Monika T., Fellow, Bhumi Fellowship; chaired by Dr Kiran Gardner, Dean, Alliance School of Law. We also had a guest speaker, Ms. Saranya N., Practicing Lawyer, High Court Kannur. The symposium gave the opportunity for students to present research work they had undertaken with the Center as part of their internship.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Alliance Centre for Criminal Justice Administration and Gender Studies (ACCJA) is inviting submissions for the second issue of its student Journal. This half-yearly peer-reviewed journal aims to cultivate a culture of research among students in the areas of criminal law. All students of Alliance University are eligible to submit their papers for the same.
Theme:
Manuscripts on any theme within the ambit of Criminal Law. Students can also submit case analysis, commentaries, book reviews etc, in areas of criminal law.
Submission Details:
The submissions should be sent as an email to accja@alliance.edu.in with the subject "CCJA- Article submission for Journal".
Submission Guidelines:
- Submissions are accepted only in the English language.
- All articles must be accompanied by an abstract not exceeding 300 words.
- The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman, Font Size – 12 and 1.5-line spacing.
- The footnotes should be in Times New Roman, Font Size 10 and single line spacing.
- The submissions need to original and free of plagiarism.
- All pieces should adhere to a word limit of 3500 - 4000 words, including references.
- The citations must conform to the style of Bluebook 20th edition.
- By submitting material for publication, you guarantee that you are the original copyright holder of the work in question, and you own the legal rights to use the information. In case of any breach of copyright, the author shall bear the liability.
- Alliance School of Law would not be charging any publication fee.
- Authors will be informed about acceptance of their articles within 12 to 15 days from the submission date.
