SAY NO TO PLASTICS—November 21, 2014

SAY NO TO PLASTICS

Environment conservation was the initiative of the students from ACED and BBA, where the event named SAY NO TO PLASTICS was organised at the food court where students made around 300 paper bags and distributed to all the students who visited the stalls with a message saying SAY NO TO PLASTICS . It was a successful event where students did contribute towards environemnt conservation by atleast starting with the campus making it plastic free.

Visit to Art of Living Ashram November 16, 2014

45 students along with faculty visited the Art of Living International Centre at Kanakapura , Bangalore to understand the scope of meditation –The Art of Living way where they attended the session conducted by Sri Sri Ravishankarji and other art of living teachers. This exposure was planned for the students to cope with the stresses and challenges in their daily living. The University will be conducted the meditation courses for all at the University in the near future.

NGO Stalls on November 14-15, 2014

Belaku Trust, Dwarka, Gramya, Namma Aangadi, Kaikrafts participated in the annual event of NGO fest at the Central Campus as part of the CSR initiative of the University. The response at the stalls were good from the student and other memebers of the University. Student volunteers assisted at the stalls.

Tree Plantation on November 1, Kannada Rajayotsava Day

65 students from ACED enthusiastically participated in the sapling plantation drive in collaboration with BOSCH and Art of Living volunteers and planted around 100 saplings. This was the 4th tree plantation drive involving students who were ever willing to participate in the community services through the method of shramdan.

CSR organized a blood donation drive on September 30 and October 1, 2014, and October 1 being celebrated as National Voluntary Blood Donation day in INDIA and it has been our endeavor to ensure that every individual donor experiences the JOY OF DONATING blood.

Sankalp India Foundation along with Rashtrotthana Blood Bank collected around 201 units of blood to be given to government hospitals and to other needy patients especially to children suffering from Thalassemia, a genetic disease that requires the children to undergo blood transfusion every 15 days.

Visit to Shri R. K. Mission, Shivanahalli

72 students participated in the exposure visit organized by the CSR dept on 23/8/14 to understand the realities of the development sector. After a briefing by Swami Vishnumayananda about service to society, students were involved in tree plantation programme as part of “SEVA “ to the mission activities. The students also interacted with 60 school children and involved them in sports activities and cultural programme. Swamiji was all praise for the students as they helped in putting manure and watering the plants. Certificates were given to students for their participation.

Social Forestry Programme at Shivaganga Hills

Around 110 students alongwith faculty and staff of the University participated in the social forestry programme as volunteers and did a commendable job of plantating more than 200 saplings as part of rejuvenating the KUMUDVATI river at the Shivaganga Hills.

Students found the activity very enriching as they were able to really nuture the plants as per the demo given by Mr. A.N Prabhakara, General Manager, BOSCH (Business excellence). The experience as related by the students during the feedback session was quite encouraging and satisfying as they wanted to do more such activities for environment protection. Certificates of participation was given to all the volunteers.

School kit drive and distribution of water filters to government schools at Anekal

CSR department in collaboration with Youth for Seva organized an annual school kit drive covering approximately 300 government school children from 6 government schools located in the vicinity of the university at Anekal.

Faculty, staff and students assisted in collecting the donations, packing of the school kits and also accompanied the CSR staff to distribute the kits in the nearby schools.

In addition to the school kits, the maintenance of the water filters was also undertaken by the University in terms of changing the carbon filters every six months. Certificates were distributed to all volunteers.

Visit to UNNATI (NGO) organised for International Students

CSR Department organized NGO visits in Bangalore on 26/5/14 & 27/5/14 for 9 international students from College of Business, Kennesaw State University, USA as part of their study abroad programme lead by Dr. Pamila Dembla, Ph.D. Director, India China America (ICA) Institute & Associate Professor of Information Systems, Michael J. Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University, USA.

The two NGO’s visited were Unnati , a vocational training centre for school drop outs & Centre for Social Action, NGO for recycling waste at the Christ University campus.

Feedback from the students revealed that this exposure helped them understand the grass root reality in India.


Earth Day Posters

Earth Day Posters

Earth day was celebrated at the campus on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, where students prepared posters which were displayed at the Food Court. The posters had a message on environment conservation. The main message was to reduce, recycle and reuse waste generated at the campus. The students of ACED prepared these posters as part of their project work in Environment sciences. Posters depicting pollution of land, air and water also was displayed.

As part of its CSR initiative, Alliance University recently hosted an interactive session with resource persons from the Society for Inclusive Development (SFID)—a Dehradun-based non-governmental organization. SFID works in the areas of environmental protection, education, energy, employment and empowerment in the state of Uttarakhand. The interactive session with the students of Alliance University sent out an appeal for volunteers to participate in the ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations in the flood ravaged region.


Advisory Board for CSR Initiatives

The 3rd meeting of the advisory board for CSR initiatives was held on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

The members of the advisory board were appreciative of the CSR activities that was conducted during the period 2013—2014 and offered more suggestions for involvement with communities around the University.
