CSR Activities

Year: 2011-2012

Alliance University School of Business seeks to orient its students to the needs of the development sector, and in their role as active contributors to society encourages them to work ceaselessly to upgrade and offer services to the underprivileged and lower economic strata of society. To take this initiative forward, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) department of Alliance University sought to sensitize students to NGO settings and trained them to interact with NGO staff and beneficiaries through an orientation program. Following the orientation, a Bangalore based NGO, Youth for Seva (YFS), was invited by the CSR department to orient students on exposure visits to NGOs as well as to share information with them on the status of health and education at the national level. As part of CSR initiatives of the University, workshops and exposure visits of students were organized by YFS between August 23 and September 30, 2011 to NGOs located in the rural and urban areas of Bangalore.

The NGO workshops hosted speakers from:

Karuna Trust, Bangalore

MASMARA, Bangalore

SAAHAS, Bangalore

As management professionals of the future, these exposure visits help students to:

Sensitize themselves to various issues at the grass root level

Contribute their management skills through volunteering at the NGO

Motivate them to volunteer their free time for community service

Collaboration with Youth for Seva:

Students’ experiences:

Ramkrishna Mission :

  • I have learnt and experienced a lot many things at the mission. These visits have taught me to be a responsible citizen and I thank YFS and Alliance University for organizing these visits for students. Robin Baby, MBA: January 2011 – 2013.
  • The visit to the mission gave me a sense of happiness, peace and positivity. Looking at the school children at the mission made me feel guilty for ignoring so many things in life which these little children would have treasured. To sum up, it was a great experience and I thank Alliance University and YFS for giving me this opportunity. Mohammad Ashraf Basarikatti, MBA: January 2011 – 2013.

Little Sisters of the Poor :

  • It was a wonderful opportunity given to us by Alliance University to serve the aged and the infirm. I would try my best to visit this organization quite often and serve the beneficiaries. The smile on their faces brings so much satisfaction to the soul. Annapurna, MBA: January 2011 – 2013.

Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind :

  • The exposure visits were truly exhilarating and these touched my heart. I would recommend all students of the MBA degree program to undertake such visits, as it would help to them to develop a spirit of compassion. I applaud the efforts of the CSR department to organize such a wonderful experience for us. Sunil R. Kaushik, MBA: January 2011 – 2013.

S VYASA:

  • I have learnt the importance of yoga and its benefits in making me fit, both physically and mentally. I believe that yoga can make me stress free and help me to study with concentration. The visit to S VYASA, an NGO promoting the practice of yoga as well as other social sector initiatives, has taught me the importance of social responsibility. Robin Baby, MBA: January 2011 – 2013.

YOUTH FOR SEVA :

  • The volunteers of Youth for Seva revitalized me. The dedication of these volunteers inspires me to serve society in ways possible. Robin Baby, MBA: January 2011 – 2013.
