INAUGURAL CEREMONY OF CERTIFICATE AND DIPLOMA BATCHES
Feb 13th, 2016 witnessed the Inaugural Ceremony of the 5th batch of the Certificate and Diploma Courses in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi for the year 2016-17. The Chief Guest for the evening was Guru Dr. Vasundhara Dorasawamy, an eminent Bharatanatyam exponent from Mysore, along with the Guest of Honour Guru Bhanumathi, a legendary Teacher in the field of Bharatanatyam. The programme was presided by Mr. Siva Kumar Mathada, Registrar, Alliance University and Dr. Shripad Markande, Associate Dean, Academics, Alliance University. Dr. Mohan Gopinath, Professor, Alliance School of Business, and an eminent vocalist himself also graced the occasion.
The evening ceremony started with an invocatory prayer by Prof. Ramya Suraj, Assistant Professor, Bharatanatyam, DPA, Alliance University and Mrs. Sruthy Chandrasekhar, Senior Executive (Administration). The soulful singing and the mellifluous voices of the singers were a perfect kick start to the occasion. The traditional lighting of the lamp was done by the esteemed guests and honoured academicians present for the function. The welcome address was given by Dr. Vasanth Kiran, HOD, Department of Performing Arts, where he emphasised on the importance of the theoretical knowledge every artist should possess in their respective fields. Though it has only been 3 years since the Department started, the great impact it has made in the field of dance is commendable.
The Chief Guest Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy, spoke about the greatness of the Art in the Indian Context and inspired everyone with her speech that focussed on the dedication and commitment every artist should have towards their art. She fondly wished that the Department of Performing Arts, Alliance University should attain greater heights as their ambitions for the upliftment of the art are sincere. Her soulful blessings mean a lot.
The Guest of Honour, Guru Bhanumathi, an eminent dancer and a very reputed Guru in the field of Bharatanatyam, also addressed the students and the faculty and spoke about the evolving changes in the dance world and the differences between the Gurukul system of learning and the modern methods that many are adapting. The revolution that the usage of technology has brought in the concept of learning was her main theme. She inspired everyone with her clean and neat diction and presentation.
Dr. Shripad Markande, Associate Dean, Academics, Alliance University, also addressed the gathering and promised that the University is constantly interacting with its associated Departments and would always support the Performing Arts Department in all its endeavours.
Soon after this, the new batch of students were initiated with the Natyrambha Sloka and the first few steps were taught as a beginning. The MC for the evening was Prof. Suchethan Rangaswamy, a senior vocalist and a Guest Faculty for Carnatic Vocal in the Department of Performing Arts. The concluding item was the Vote of Thanks by Prof. Maalyada Anand, Assistant Professor, Kuchipudi, Department of Performing Arts, Alliance University.
