Led by Dr. Denish Shah, Georgia State University

This session involves participation of attendees in an activity designed to facilitate structured one-to-one interaction between delegates. Objective of this session is to provide an opportunity of informally communicating and discussing research ideas to leading world-class faculty by doctoral fellows and researchers. The activity can help researchers to get useful viewpoints of individuals who are accomplished international consortium faculty members from different areas of research. Feedback received can enable researchers to improve the way they communicate about their research.
Seminar Hall Ground Floor,
Learning Center
About the Speed Dating Activity Objective: The inaugural AIM-AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium presents a great opportunity for doctoral fellows to interact with world-class faculty. To facilitate this process in a somewhat structured manner, the speed dating event has been organized. The event will ensure multiple one-to-one interactions between a fellow and faculty. The overarching goal is to enable fellows to get feedback on their dissertation research ideas from accomplished international consortium faculty who will be participating in the event.

Instructions (for Faculty): All consortium faculty members are requested to take their seats by 1:40pm in Seminar Hall Ground Floor (Moot Court). A seat will be reserved for each faculty member (as indicated by the name of the respective faculty member on a label placed on the reserved seat). The names will be arranged in an alphabetical order.

Instructions (for Fellows): All consortium fellows are requested to assemble in Ground Floor Faculty Lounge by 1:30pm. Thereafter, the fellows will be accompanied by a consortium staff to the event room. The fellows will be initially seated across a specific faculty member. At the end of every five to six minutes, a bell will ring and each fellow has to move to the next available seat across a faculty member.

Overall description of the event: At 1:45pm, a bell will sound, indicating the start of the event. Thereafter, the bell will ring periodically every five minutes. During the five-minute interval, each fellow will get an opportunity to have a one-to-one interaction with a faculty member. At the end of the event, every fellow would have had an opportunity to interact with at least ten members of the consortium faculty and vice-versa.

Preparation (for Fellows): Consortium fellows should view this event as a rare opportunity to have several one-to-one interactions with world-class faculty. Consequently, every fellow should strive to make the best use of the five-minute meeting with each faculty. Towards this endeavor, fellows may want to prepare by conducting several practice sessions prior to traveling to the consortium. For example, train yourself to communicate the basic essence of your dissertation in few minutes. This may include addressing questions such as: What are you researching about? Why is your dissertation topic important? What are the interesting findings? Why should researchers and/or managers care about your research?

In summary, every fellow should strive to engage the faculty through clear articulation of their research so as to receive relevant and valuable feedback.
